Lenten Devotion, Maundy Thursday, Apr. 6

"Jesus said, 'Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him. ... I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.'" John 13:31b, 34-35

One meaning of our English word "glorify" is to "light up brilliantly." This passage invites reflection today on the illuminating power of servant-love: to "light up brilliantly" Christ, God in Christ, and the disciples of Christ.

Let us pray: Holy One, shine through our love for one another. Mold us to the servant heart of Jesus, that we may be light for the world. Be with us through the darkness of these Three Days - we trust in your promise. Your faithfulness endures. Amen.
