Lenten Devotion, Mar. 16
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us. . . Hebrews 12:1
When I awake in the morning, God does not expect me to go out on a 10 mile training run, as I am sure these marathoners at the World Games have done many times. It is my job, however, to keep my eyes and ears open to the opportunities that the spirit will offer today to be of service to God and those around me. On a good day, I am alert to those possibilities. On a day when I am struggling , it is even more important for me to get outside myself and search for those opportunities. Being of service is the antidote to my difficulties.

Gracious God, Awaken me to the things you have in store for me this day. Give me the heart to overcome fear and to persevere to accomplish your will.
