The weekend of September 25-27 marked the annual Christus House Fall Retreat, which was held this year at Camp Lutherwood in Chesire, OR. While it was a weekend of campfires, laughter, covenant-building, worship, and making new friends, it was clearly marked by the unusual year 2020 has proven to be.
The intentional student community at Christus House is "capped" this year in an effort to maximize safety for its residents. We were heartened to see so many applications for residency, and saddened to be unable to welcome as many as we'd wish into the House. The wonderful students who we are hosting this year are working hard to establish ways of life together that both celebrate community and protect one another's health.
Hearth & Table - our weekly meal program combatting student food insecurity - has also had to pivot. Where before we welcomed student diners into our Parish Hall, meals will be prepared for pick-up in to-go containers beginning Tuesday, October 6th. We are working closely with campus partners to ensure we continue creative invitations for growth in students' cooking confidence and food access.
